The stairs are the stage of life. It presents you with unexpected and much anticipated turns. The moving man is uncertain, the stairs are certain. Man's thoughts and desires are also staircases. The wings are long gone. Sometimes they go up to the attic, sometimes down to the basement.
Many of these unaligned desires leave the home, only to suddenly turn into their opposite outside, becoming an unwanted companion. Who wants no one, who wants no one. Lack of courage? Lack of ability? Everyone seems to be what they're not. Some people struggle against it and fall into it. Some don't, and others fall for it. The stairs, it seems, are a way in, not a way out.
The text of the monologue was written by the poet Zoltán Halasi, with whom Anna Réti has already worked together in the past, in connection with the performance "House of Cards".
After her studies in Rotterdam, Anna Réti worked in the Netherlands with Itzik Galili, Conny Janssen and Jens Van Daele. Back in Hungary, she has worked as a freelancer in performances by Réka Szabó, László Hudi, Viktor Bodó, Klári Pataky, Eszter Gál and Gábor Goda, among others. In 2012-13 she participated in projects with József Nagy, Karine Ponties and Paulo Riberio.
Since 2005, she has been creating her own choreographies, which have received several national and international awards and recognitions. Her independent works include Soul without a Sweater, House of Cards, Night Shift, Fregoli Syndrome, Back-to-Back Encounters with A, Snapshot Commentaries, Ego Trip, Eyes on the Spot.
His 2015 performance Point of You, co-produced with Portuguese Ricardo Machado, was selected as one of the 20 most exciting works of the year by the international network Aerowaves.
