We are pleased to announce that the Central Europe Dance Theatre (CEDT) is seeking participants for DCL – Dance Communication Lab in Budapest from Beyond Front@ partner countries: Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Romania, and Sweden.
Beyond Front@: Bridging Periphery is a Creative Europe project (2023–2026) created by Central Europe Dance Theatre – CEDT (Hungary), Bunkers (Slovenia), Croatian Institute for Movement and Dance – HIPP (Croatia), Krakow Dance Theatre - Krakowski Teatr Tańca (Poland), M Studio (Romania) and Vitlycke - CPA (Sweden) to foster local development of the contemporary dance fields.
What is a DCL, in general? DCL – Dance Communication Lab is a short-term exchange program for dancers, with the primary goal of bringing together six professional dancers from the aforementioned partner countries to get to know one another through improvisation, which is the most distinctive creative process in contemporary dance. The two-day research project will take place under the mentorship of Sándor Petrovics.
Sándor Petrovics was born in 1987 in Budapest, Hungary. In 2012, he earned his diploma as a contemporary dancer at BCDA. Moving to Israel proved to be a turning point in his life. In Tel Aviv, he worked at Vertigo Dance Company, and at the same time, he became a certified practitioner of the Ilan Lev Method. In 2019, he left Israel to join the German Tanzmainz Company, where Sharon Eyal’s work had the greatest influence on him. During this time, he also became more familiar with the Gaga movement system. In 2021, upon returning to Hungary, he began sharing his experiences through teaching and ILM treatments. Recently, he has also been working as a freelance dancer.

DCL CEDT-Budapest will take place 16th -17th November 2024 as part of the annual Sissi Autumn Dance Week (SŐT7) at the Bethlen Square Theater. The demonstration can take any form or take place in any location (e.g., indoors, outdoors, or as a walk); it typically lasts between 15 and 40 minutes and is open to the public.
When?
- Arrival: November 15
- Studio days: November 16–17
- Demonstration: November 17
- Departure: November 18
Where? At one of the festival’s site-specific venues.
Participation criteria:
- only Dance artists from the listed countries are invited and accepted
- only Dance artists who submit a detailed professional resume may apply
- we are primarily – but not limited to – seeking dance artists who are college or university graduates and/or have stage experience
The number of participants is limited to 6! The Dance Communication Lab, involving the six partner countries, will select one dancer from each country.
What CEDT offers:
- Accommodation for three nights
- Per diem (75 EUR in total)
- Tickets for the festival
The Beyond Front@ project partner from your country will cover:
- Your artistic fee of 150 EUR
- Travel expenses
